Did you Know?

*Not only do they drive on the left in Cyprus, but the roads are good quality and the signage is in English as well as Greek. It's a stress free destination for renting a car and seeing the sights (but your satnav is unlikely to work!)

Directions from Paphos Airport

It's late. It's dark. You're tired.

After initialling the car hire agreement in 82 places, with that uneasy feeling that you are now liable to buy someone somewhere a new car, you are ready to set off to your villa. But the road signs have that strange Greek alphabet on them, and it's dark. And you're tired. Really tired. Good news. There is a painless and reliable way to get from Paphos airport to Paphos (and the nearby Coral Bay area), where many holiday villas are located.

This is the kind of route which is ideal when you are tired and it is dark, and people drive on the left as a bonus. Here goes:

  1. Come out of the terminal and follow the only road, remembering to drive on the left.
  2. You come to a stop at a T junction, and turn left, which will be signposted Paphos.
  3. From here on, ignore all signs! Within reason of course.
  4. Continue on this road for between 5 and 15 minutes, depending on your speed.
  5. You will pass through Geroskipou but just keep driving until you reach a large roundabout.
  6. This roundabout has a large Debenhams store to the right, visible as you approach it. You turn left.
  7. Follow this road, a dual carriageway, for a couple of minutes until you reach a small roundabout.
  8. Beyond it, on the left, you may see a sign for "Kaligulas" (warning - advertising tends to change frequently). Regardless, turn right here.
  9. That's it. You now drive straight ahead, through various sets of lights, on what will shortly become the coast road.
  10. You pass the Tomb of the Kings, then Chlorakas, followed by Kissonerga.
  11. This will all look very similar, shops, bars and hotels, as the old towns are above you on the hillside.
  12. After Kissonerga, the sea comes unmissably close to the road on your left, while on your right is a large banana plantation, i.e. darkness at night.
  13. As the road rises away from the sea, the bright lights of Coral Bay start to appear on the left. Turn left at the roundabout and you are there.
