Paphos Castle

The castle is located on the harbour front of Paphos and its original purpose was to be a fort to protect the harbour and Paphos. It was rebuilt by the Lusignans and then destroyed by the Venetians, so it has a deep history. In 1935 the castle was declared an ancient monument and even today it is a very important feature of Paphos. There isn’t much to see or do inside the castle but the square in front the castle is the host to many significant cultural events throughout the year and is often the stage for operas. One thing to do inside the castle is to get access to top platform where there are some spectacular views of the marina. If you are interested in going inside the castle, its open from 7:30 to 17:00 Monday to Sunday. Read more

Agios Giorgios

Agios Georgios can be found west of Paphos and east of the Lara Reserve. This is where the tarmac road from Paphos ends, and the dirt roads of the Akamas begin As well as being a village with a beach with beautiful crystal waters, the area is was also once a Roman settlement and you can still visit the old tombs. While the water is very shallow, one thing to remember about swimming here is that you must not swim near the boat ramps. Opposite the beach you can find the church of Agios Georgios, which is a fairly modern building, while behind it is the original tiny Byzantine church. On top of being historical the area is very scenic with fantastic views of Geronisos Island and because the coast is west facing the sunsets are sublime. There are plenty of Tavernas at the bay, which serve fresh fish all day, although we don't recommend the one with the best location. Better for views than food. Read more

The Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon is a large bay situated on the Akamas Coast of Cyprus and has a small Island in the middle of the bay. It is very popular amongst snorkelers. In able to discover this paradise you need to have access to a 4x4 and be able to drive it, as the coastal road of Akamas is sign posted "Dangerous Road". Alternatively the safer and more interesting way is to hire a boat from Latsi and you can reach the bay within 30 minutes. Because the bay is sheltered it means that the water is very warm and reaches 30 degrees C, and the white sandy bottom gives the bay beautiful turquoise water. For those who like exploring the bay is surrounded by a range of rocks and there's plenty to discover on the Island. The only downside to the Blue Lagoon is its popularity especially in summer so you need to watch out for all the tourists and beginners boat drivers coming in from Latsi. It's best to reach the bay early in the morning or late in the evening if you want a quieter, more peaceful atmosphere. Read more
